About Us
Our Story
Three Sisters Books & Gifts
Three sisters, yes, we are really sisters. We grew up on a farm a few miles east of downtown Shelbyville. Our memories of the public square include weekly trips to the dime store and a favorite treat, a trip to DePrez’s toy department. Being a part of downtown revitalization is important to us. We opened Three Books & Gifts in 2002 on the northwest corner of the Public Square. Our goal is to serve as a community gathering place and provide a comfortable and homey atmosphere for book browsing and book buying. Part of the mission of Three Sisters Books & Gifts is to make the bookstore an active part of the community. Over the years, Three Sisters Books & Gifts has supported many local community fund-raisers, as well as Shelby County Reads Essay Contests. Three Sisters Books reviews books for the Shelbyville News. A newsletter is mailed or emailed to customers about upcoming store events, special discounts and new book releases. The sisters have presented book programs for local groups and organizations and read to residents of McKay Manor every week. Along with the Shelby County Public Library and community volunteers, Three Sisters started Shelby County Reads, an all community reading program. In 2008, we expanded our business to include the coffee shop next door, now known as The Bookmark. Lynn joined Carolyn and Barbara to take Mary Kay’s place as a partner in 2018 after Mary Kay’s death.
